The Phoenix dance studio is about to go through a tough time, but one that it says it’s not prepared for.
The Phoenix Dance studio has been struggling to make ends meet as its downtown Tucson location has become a hotspot for illegal marijuana businesses and tourists.
The business has struggled to attract customers since a law passed in January made it illegal to sell marijuana or hemp products in Arizona.
The company, founded in 2013 by longtime dance music promoter John McManus, is on the verge of closing its Tucson location.
The studio has struggled for years to stay open, even as it was trying to secure a liquor license.
The owner said he would take a break from the business to rest and heal.
Now, with a new owner taking over, the Phoenix Dance will close on April 14, 2019.
The owners plans to build a new dance studio in a new location.
McManos has said he will continue to do music, but has been careful not to touch marijuana.
